The Basics of Gym Etiquette
For many of us, the gym is a sacred place. We dedicate many hours of our life there and want to make it the best experience we can.
So, there is certain gym etiquette or 'gym rules' all people need to follow, some which are written down and others that are just simply understood.
And you don’t want to be that person. You probably know who that person is at your gym. If you don’t, be sure to know the following gym rules of the land:
• Put your weights back after you’re done with them
• Don’t use multiple machines if the gym is really busy
• If you need a spot on every exercise or multiple sets, either lift lighter or always come with a workout partner
• Wipe off the benches you use with a towel if you’re sweaty
• Avoid long conversations with people, for your sake and theirs
• Don’t start a conversation with someone in the middle of their set
• Watch your language
• Let someone work in if you have more sets to go and the gym is busy
• Give others space
• Don’t bring your cell phone or turn it off
• Everyone needs to grunt sometimes, but don’t go crazy
• Try to avoid walking between someone doing a set and the mirror
All this stuff may seem simple, but it makes everyone’s gym experience much more enjoyable. The key is to go to the gym with a focus on working out, keeping the gym and the equipment clean, avoiding distracting others and gym etiquette will just fall in place.
