et Your Mind Fit

To begin the journey of establishing your life as a fit and healthy life, you need to make sure that your mind is in the right place to ensure success in all the effort you’ll put in.  Getting your mind fit will be key for fitness success.

Being mentally strong is key no matter whether you’re trying to change your lifestyle or simply take your fitness to the next level. Below, you’ll find some general principles, ideas and reminders that are important to keep front of mind when you think you’re going to skip your workout, eat that slice of pizza in the cafeteria or even when you’re still feeling that post-workout high.  Being mentally strong is key to fitness success.

1. You are in control.
Every decision that will impact your fitness level and health is within your control. Your food choices are yours. The intensity level of your workouts is yours. Your decision to find time to work out is yours. The control is in your hands.

2. Rewards are important
Sometimes our results don’t show up quickly and that isn’t easy when we put in the effort we do. This is why it’s important to ensure that you reward yourself for ‘good behaviour’. Doing so with short term and long term goals is key for ensuring your mind is in the right place.

3. Praise yourself
Whether it’s during a workout, after a healthy meal, after a great training session or just in your healthy choices in general, praise yourself. Be it in your mind, a note to yourself, or the silly act of talking to yourself. Great positive reinforcement can also come from the person you know best – you.

4. Positivity
This is a bit of a no brainer, but is very crucial.  Surround yourself with positivity, whether it's the books you read, the people you talk to, the music you listen to or the thoughts in your head.  Repeat positive statements about yourself, encourage loved ones to provide you with that reinforcement and seek out positive support by any means you can find.

5. It's a change of lifestyle
If you want to change your life, you need to change your life.  It's important to remind yourself that this is not a diet.  This is not an exercise program.  This is a lifestyle and exercising and eating clean is the norm in your life.  If you think of it as a temporary thing, then your results will be a temporary thing.  If you consider these as parts of your life like you do all other elements of your life, it will be easy, seamless and impacting.

6. Find a mentor
Hey, it's not a new concept that a positive role model can be a great thing.  To see their success, hear their encouragement and provide you with guidance will do wonders for your mindset.  If you know someone that can provide this for you, be sure to take the opportunity to ask them to be your mentor.

When you get your mind fit, you improve the chances of fitness success.  Being mentally strong is key in establishing a productive and healthy lifestyle.  It requires attention and effort as much as your body requires attention and effort.  The great news is that as your body grows stronger, so will your mental strength.  Take advantage of the opportunities to be healthy in body and mind.
