Looking for a Fitness Goal? Enter a Women's Fitness Competition

The one thing that can help anyone stay motivated with their eye on a fitness goal is to have something specific to strive for. Add on top of that an opportunity to be competitive and you’ll be anxious for your next workout and will find yourself following a perfect meal plan.

If you haven’t heard, there is a huge movement for women to compete in women's fitness competitions. As the steroid-laden women’s bodybuilding begins to diminish, the move is to a more natural and healthy competitive landscape for women, which is a great option for an exercise goal for any woman looking for an extra boost in their motivation.

It is primarily broken up into three different types of competitions: fitness, figure and the newly formed bikini. However, don't be intimidated.  These competitions are for women of all ages, with many including masters categories for those older competitors.

Fitness competitions include performing a routine that includes gymnastics, flexibility, strength skills and dance along with one and two piece bathing suit/physique rounds.

Figure competitions focus just on the one and two-piece bathing suit rounds, with a focus on elements such as body symmetry, muscle tone and another number of judging criteria. There are no gymastics or fitness routines in figure.

Bikini competitions are similar to figure competitions only differing in that there is less emphasis on muscle and a 'cut' physique, with a focus on a slim and fit body.

It is important to note the amount of dedication it takes to enter a women's fitness competition. It requires months and even years getting your physique ready, if you have the right body type. But nothing worth striving for ever comes easy, does it?

It’s important to be realistic when you consider competing as a fitness goal. Genetics play a big role in your ability to place well, but if you have the body type, commitment, hard work and dedication ensure you can be competitive.

If you do decide to compete, be patient and have a plan. It can take time for you to develop the physique capable of being on the stage. With a great exercise and diet plan, a competition may be just the thing to light a fire to your motivation and be a fitness goal you'll fall in love with.
