Why everyone should lift weights

When most people that are new to working out think of a weights plan, they often have images of those massive, steroid taking freaks of nature that compete in bodybuilding events. As you can ask anyone that’s lifted weights for a period of time, adding muscle does not happen easily or in great volume. Believe me, it takes a special kind of dedication and substance to look like professional bodybuilders. When women lift weights, they will lose fat and attain that lean look so many desire.

But no matter your fitness goal, resistance training (or a weights plan) should be a part of every program. There are numerous benefits to resistance training, but we’ll just list the following:

1. Fat loss
The key to fat loss is to rev up your metabolism and there’s no better way to rev up your metabolism than to lift weights. When you gain muscle, you burn more calories a day resulting in greater fat loss.

2. Stronger bones
Resistance training can greatly impact your bone density. This is crucial as you age in minimizing the risk of osteoporosis.

3. Increased strength
Who doesn’t want to be stronger? No need to ask your partner for help with that jar of jam. In fact, he may ask you for help!

4. Reduce stress
No matter the kind of day you’re having, pushing some heavy weight around will push all your worries away. If you don’t believe me, ask anyone that lifts weights on a regular basis. You’ll feel better almost instantly.

5. Increase joint stability
When you work out with good form and train smart, you can strengthen your ligaments and tendons. This results in greater joint stability which can ease the pain of arthritis and osteoarthritis.

6. Improve your mood
Research shows that exercise greatly improves your mood and reduces clinical depression. Besides, you always feel great about yourself when you’re taking care of your health. Feeling great in the mind and in the body is what it’s all about, isn’t it?

7. You’ll have more energy
The more you work out, the more energy you’ll have every day. When you were once making excuses to not work out, you’ll soon be anticipating your workouts each day. Trust me.

8. Reduce pain
When you do resistence training and strengthen your core, upper and lower body, you will require less work on your back for lifting and carrying weight and warm the joints of other body parts. This eases stress, brings blood to those body parts and leaves you with less pain.

9. Improves co-ordination
Stumbling over that damn dog? Struggling in heels? Bumping into things? Well, resistance training improves your co-ordination and your confidence. You’ll be unbeatable.

10. Reduces chances of Type 2 diabetes
Resistance training can improve the way your body processes sugar, which can result in reducing the risk of type 2 diabetes. Better to not get it at all as opposed to learn to manage it.

When women weight lift, the benefits are countless.  Don't let stereotypes of strength training prevent you from realizing the health benefits that will improve your life.
